About me

timMy name is Tim Morley. I was born in a part of Kent which was later swallowed up by London.

I have been teaching English for a scarily long time.  Having taught English in Japan, Malaysia and the UK  for many years I’ve gained substantial experience working with students from a wide variety of backgrounds.  I have  worked for an “interesting” set of employers, too – mostly the kind of people who would attempt to steal your fingers while shaking hands.

Anyway, I have decided to abandon the traditional English School technique of cramming as many people as possible into a very small room and charging them the Earth, and instead aim to teach students either individually or in small groups, so that they at least have the opportunity to say the occasional word.  Obviously this is a very poor business plan – you can see from my photo that I can’t afford a tie – but I have found that students tend to like it.

What do I teach?  Well that really depends on my student.  I have experience preparing people for the IELTS, Cambridge, TOEIC and TOEFL examinations, so if examinations are your thing or, in the case of IELTS, the barrier that is preventing you from going to where you want to go, I can help.

I have spent many years teaching at (mainly Japanese) companies, so if you need help with Business English, be it only checking your emails for errors, I can do it.   Proof-reading is one of my specialities.  And if you are a non-native attempting to deal with the English I can let you into a few cultural secrets (for instance, we don’t like to talk about money, which makes doing business a bit of a problem).

Or maybe you just want to build your confidence to speak.  I can help.  I very rarely attack people with sticks when they make a mistake.  Or maybe you want to find out what your English friend meant when they said, for example, “Beautiful weather!” on a horribly cold rainy day.  I can explain the mysteries of that ridiculous group of people known as the English.

How do I teach?  Again, that depends on my student.  I can use a textbook if that is what is wanted, but I usually design all of my own materials.  My focus is on what you need.

Learning a language can be a nightmare.  It is immensely frustrating when you feel you are making no progress.  There is no magic formula to learning a language.  It is all down to hard work. Your hard work.  My job is to lift you up when you are down, and hopefully make your studying fun.
